Former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto scored a TKO victory over champion Jan Zaveck to capture the IBF title at the "Battle at Biloxi" at the beautiful Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
With each fighter having something to prove - Berto coming off the first loss of his professional career and Zaveck fighting for the first time in the U.S. - the combatants came out fast in the opening round and exchanged furious combinations.
In the fifth, some swelling developed under the right eye of Berto, while the face of Zaveck suffered nasty cuts with a heavy swelling developing around both eyes.
Between rounds, Zaveck's corner, realizing that their fighter was unable to see, called a halt to the action.
Berto improved to 28-1, 21 KOs along with capturing the IBF welterwelterweight crown, while Zaveck, who showed he is a true force in the division, drops to 30-2, 18 KOs.
