In what many are considering the biggest boxing event in Canadian history, HBO World Championship Boxing brings the long-awaited WBC Diamond Light Heavyweight battle between Lucian Bute and Jean Pascal, LIVE from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, on January 18th.

After an injury in the Bute training camp forced cancellation of their original fight date in 2013, both fighters are ready for an explosive night in the ring in front of an expected 22,000 spectators.

After more than a year away from the canvas, former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Lucian Bute is thrilled that the fight has been reinstated. Bute’s last outing in November 2012 brought him a Unanimous Decision victory over Russian Light Heavyweight Denis Grachev. After suffering a hand injury while training for the previously-scheduled bout against Pascal, Bute had surgery to remove bone fragments from his left hand. 7 months later, Bute is ready to jump back in the ring and handle his business with Pascal. “As you all know already, I will arrive to the ring very well prepared,” Bute said. “This is a fight that I wanted. I am going to have fun on January 18th, and so are the majority of Quebecers present at the Bell Centre.”

Opponent Jean Pascal comes off a 5 round TKO win against American fighter George Blades this past September. Pascal was born in Haiti but moved to Quebec at age 4, becoming one of the country’s most well-known athletes. The former Canadian Boxer of the Year said of his matchup with Bute: “Finally! I have been waiting for this fight for years…. On January 18th the ring will be too small for the both of us. Bute will not be able to hide. I will expose him.”

HBO retains Worldwide rights to this event excluding French Canada, Japan, Romania, UK, & Ireland.
